Tervehdys Kaikille! Innostuneena kerron teille vähän itsestäni.
Aloitin lentopalloilun 10 vuotiaana ja olen rakastanut lajia siitä asti. Uskomatonta että olen pelannut jo 14 vuotta. High Schoolista minut värvättiin pelaamaan Pohjois-Iowan yliopistoon, jossa pelasin 5 vuotta samalla kun opiskelin biologiaa ja kauppatieteitä. Yliopistovuosina sain myös uskomattoman tilaisuuden pelata USA:n yliopistojen maajoukkueessa kahden kesän ajan. Valmistuin kahdella tutkinnolla 2017.
Tieni vei Budapestiin pelaamaan, ensimmäinen vuoteni ammattilaisena Euroopassa. Vuosi Unkarissa sai minut kiinnostumaan jatkamaan ammattilaisuraani. Oli melkoinen kokemus elää vieraassa maassa, tavata uusia ihmisiä, tutustua vieraaseen kulttuuriin ja oppia tuntemaan itsenikin paremmin.
Innostuin yhä enemmän viime kesänä kun agenttini kertoi että Suomalainen joukkue oli kiinnostunut minusta. Meillä oli hyvä keskustelu päävalmentaja Arttu Keräsen kanssa, pidin Artun näkemyksistä valmennus filosofiastaan ja tavoitteistaan tämän joukkueen kokoamisessa. En malttanut odottaa päästäkseni kertomaan perheelleni ja ystävilleni sopimuksesta LP Kangasalan kanssa.
Saavuin Suomeen elokuun alussa, ja kuten varmaan useimmat ulkomaalaiset, pakkasin shortsit matkalaukkuuni. Huomasin nopeasti etten tule tarvitsemaan niitä Suomessa ikinä. Oletin vielä olevan kesäkelit; olisi pitänyt tutkia paremmin elokuun lämpötiloja. Tiesin että täällä on kylmää ja lunta lähes koko vuoden, mutten ollut valmistautunut kylmän alkamiseen jo elokuussa (Oliko elokuussa kylmää; Toim.huom)!
Olen nyt ollut Kangasalla lähes 2kk. Aika kuluu nopeasti. Olen todennut Suomen hyvin kauniiksi maaksi, varsinkin nyt syksyllä lehtien vaihtaessa väriään puissa. Odotan myös innolla ensilumia. Uskoisin että talvi on vielä ihmeellisempää. Edistyn hitaasti kielenne opiskelussa, joka on hyvin erilaista mihinkään aiemmin kuulemaani verrattuna, ja “r” kirjaimen lausuminen on kovin vaikeaa. Joukkuetoverit nauravat yrityksilleni lausua Suomalaisia sanoja. Nautin todella pikkukaupungin tunnelmasta, mutta on hienoa että Tampere on niin lähellä. Ihmiset ovat olleet uskomattoman avuliaita ja vastaanottavia. Joukkuetoverit ja taustayhteisö ovat olleet hyväsydämisiä ja saaneet minut kotiutumaan nopeasti. Tottakai on aluksi outoa pelata täysin uuden joukkueen kanssa ja täysin uuden kielen kanssa. Myönnän jännittäneeni ensimmäisiä treenejä, mutta nyt nautin täysin saliharjoituksista, ja lentopallokenttä on kuin toinen koti. Täällä treenataan kovaa niin salilla kuin hallissa. Kaikki harjoittelevat ja pelaavat sydämellä, ja tukevat toisiaan. Se tekee tästä joukkueesta erilaisen; meillä on yhteenkuuluvuutta!
Vahva harjoittelu on tuottanut tulosta aloituspelien voittoina, nyt odotan innolla kasvamistamme koko kauden ajan. Rakastan jo nyt Suomea!

Hello to everyone! I am excited to share a little about myself with all of you. I started playing volleyball at the age of 10 and have loved it ever since. Sometimes I cannot believe I have been playing this sport for fourteen years. From high school I got recruited to play at the University of Northern Iowa, where I played volleyball for 5 years while studying Biology and Business Administration. During my time at university I also had the amazing opportunity to play for the USA Collegiate National Team for two summers. I graduated with both degrees in 2017. My journey then took me to Budapest, Hungary for my first year playing overseas as a professional. Last year at Vasas Roplabda made me very excited to continue my professional volleyball career! It was quite the experience to live in a new country, meet new people, learn a new culture, and learn more about myself as well. I was even more excited this summer when my agent, Ryan Jay Owens with EliteVolley, told me that a team in Finland was interested in having me come to play for them! I had a great first conversation with head coach, Arttu Keranen, and really enjoyed his explanation of his philosophy for coaching and his desire for building this team. I could not wait to tell my family and friends the news of signing with LP Kangasala.
I arrived in Finland in early August, and like most foreigners, I packed shorts in my suitcase. I very quickly found out that I would not be wearing them during my time here ever. I was fully expecting it to still be summer weather; I suppose I should have done more research on the August temperatures! I knew it would be cold for most of my time here, with lots of snow, but I was unprepared for that colder weather to start in August! I have now been here for almost two months which is amazing! Time goes very fast! I find Finland a very beautiful country, especially now in autumn with the leaves changing colors. I am actually very excited for the first snowfall as well! I think it will be even more amazing in the winter! I am making slow progress in learning the language, it’s very different than anything I have heard, and the “r”s are hard for me to pronounce! My teammates love to laugh as I try to say Finnish words. I really enjoy the small town feel that Kangasala has, but it is nice as well to have Tampere so close to be able to explore. The people have been the most amazing, very welcoming, and very helpful! My teammates and staff are all kind-hearted and made me feel at home right away. Of course it is always strange to start playing with an entirely new team, and in an entirely new language. I will admit to being nervous for my first practices when I arrived. However, now I definitely feel comfortable in the gym, the volleyball court is a second home! I love the group that I have the privilege to play with this year. They work hard in practices and in the trainings. Everyone gives their heart into the sport and into helping out each other. That makes this team very special; we have an amazing atmosphere together. The effort in trainings has shown in the first two wins of the season, now I am very excited to see us continue to grow throughout the entire season. I love Finland already!
